Meet Larina Robinson, our resident wholefood Dietitian here at 12 Health. You may know her from her inspiring instagram account @thebodydietetics.
There was a time in my early teenage years when I thought weekly bellyaches, feeling sickly full after dinner, and not having much energy most days was the norm. I was never that health conscious, and so much was going on with my body at that time, I just thought it was part of the process of “growing up”.
Turns out, it wasn’t. After copious doctors and specialist visits without any answers (food intolerance wasn’t very ‘trendy’ 15 years ago), I started to play around with my diet. Over the years, I cut out random foods and food groups, and things were more manageable. Still, nothing made much sense to me, and I continued to have troubles. So I switched my degree, moved away from home, and set myself on a mission. I was going to fix myself!
How I Got My Nutrition Knowledge
4 years later, I graduated from Nutrition and Dietetics with first class honours and a whole other world of knowledge about the intricacies of the body and just how amazing each of us really are!
Ever since then, I’ve felt compelled to help others just like me to feel ‘normal’ again, understand their bodies, and discover the diet and lifestyle that suits them best. There’s no nonsense, no gimmicks, no fad diets. Just science-backed advice and an open mind to help you live life on your terms and do what’s best for you.
What I Typically Eat
A healthy diet also comes with a healthier outlook on life and a tendency to do what feels good for you! That’s why, for me, most mornings start with a walk or run with my beautiful puppy, Hope around the lakeside. A fresh cup of coffee brews while I get ready for the day, and breakfast is typically gluten free toast with smashed avocado, tomato and basil, or a smoothie bowl loaded with frozen blueberries, spinach, avocado, cinnamon, vanilla, almond milk, and added silica and zinc.
When lunchtime comes around, I’m ready for an epic salad full of colour with some tuna, salmon, or chicken. Otherwise it’s leftovers from dinner, typically a slow cooked meal, or roasted veggies with a source of protein.
Snack time cravings hit like clockwork around 3pm, and I’ll usually grab a banana and some peanut butter, a gluten free homemade slice or brownie, or a snack plate of raw veggies, some nut butter, and a piece of fruit.
Why 12 Health Products Are Lifesavers!
I’m an avid believer in ‘colouring’ your plate - no matter what your dietary choices are or need to be. But let’s face it, cravings hit, and when you’re faced with the smell of your housemates pizza, or your mum’s ultimate chocolate muffins coming out of the oven, a bowl of salad isn’t really going to cut it.
While many takeaway pizzas can leave you in a carb-induced food coma, and traditional sweet treats send your blood sugars sky-high, 12 Health products give you a delicious alternative, that’s allergen-friendly, high in protein, and won’t blow out your healthy eating goals. Plus, the base mixes are so flexible, you can adjust to suit your own taste.
Allergy-friendly mixes that are easy on your tummy, quick to prepare, all natural, and provide endless options? That’s something to be excited about, whether you have food intolerances or not!
